Why I stopped using Airbnb

어린밤 2023. 4. 20. 09:09

It was because, I CAN'T EDIT MY REVIEW on houses I stayed when I needed it to.

I was using airbnb for years and mostly satisfied with my stay until I meet this malicious host, few years ago.

I booked a stay for about few weeks in an apartment in London. The host said he's not around yet but gonna [arrive] at noon to open the door. So I prepared myself with all my belongings and arrived in time to the entracen of the building. Then the host didn't showed up.

There was no guard or anyone going in or out from the building so couldn't even go into the lobby to warm myself while the weather was freezing and there was no cafe around I can stay for awhile. I was just standing with the wind with my suitcases there.. for an hour and a half until he replies to airbnb msg app.

As I sent him a msg to the host as soon as I arrived, and sent why he isn't coming in time and what he replied after more than an hour was : I said I'm gonna [arrive] at noon, but didn't say it'll be in front of the building..  wtf..? and he's has arrived in another country and was to open the door remotely(which he never let me know before) and he reply to me because the airplane was delayed. I mean.. it's common that flights are delayed and he just told me the exact arrival time knowing I'm gonna wait there if something goes late. Anyways I said ok, cus his situation was kinda .. inevitable?

I finally went into the apartment and tried to warm myself etc..

Then the heater didn't work. Press power button -> nothing shows on display, radiator still cold after I've waited and waited...

so I msg the host again why the heater isn't working then he didn't replied for like 8 hours... and I msged airbnb instead that the host isn't replying blahblah they said they're gonna try contacting...

and after like 3 hours again? He replied and that I have to turn power of all heaters first and it's inside the stroage space in the house...and then go to heater button in the living room wall etc etc

sigh....

so I had to find that power button first, and again the other power button on ilving room to finally get warmed

And third problem, I found the tv wasn't working after few days. Before that I didn't try to turn it on so no way to find it

I had to contact the host again, heater, internet, tv-netflix are already included in the option and it isn't working

host replied again few hours later and told me

"put battery in remote controller, I'll give you the money of the battery"

Looks like he doesn't understand that the problem isn't 'the price of the battery', it's the fact that the service was shit, and that I had to ask the host and airbnb what's the problem with the tv, the heater, and that I had to wait in front the entrace in this cold, and that I have to go to some store to find battery and buy it by myself while it should be already done by the host and given ready. All these are part of the service he promised and I paid for, at least he should be sorry for that if it wasn't yet he can't understand that?

Ridiculous attitude

This host never said sorry while the uk is country of people always saying sorry

- actually he looked like a foreigner in his looks : had dark? or tanned skin and somewhat south looking hair, and his name wasn't eng name -

He was first pointed out that that he never said he's gonna arrive 'in London' when he found my msg waited for more than hour. If he was late for the time, shouldn't he apologize first?

When I couldn't find that 'secret heater button', or when the tv didn't work and he told me to 'find the another button/buy some battery and put into' he was never sorry or asked me if I want to. He casually 'told me to' do. Guess I was a bit too young back then to properly get complain about his attitude.

What happened next : weekly stay finished, and after I left the house, he was mad that their's garbage plastic bag in the house. - He didn't let me know where to throw garbages in the bulding unlike other hosts, so I put excess garbage beside the can, in the plastic bag. And he got angry about that? just laughable. I explained this to airbnb that he gave only small trash can compared to the duration I'm staying, also I accused of me that I broke some curtain bottom(?) that I've never seen before and have to pay for it. His claim was rejected by airbnb after I've talked to them that there's no reason to pay since I didn't do anything with it. Actually it felt like airbnb accepted my refusal right away because they also thought the host throwing tantrum.

Unfortunately, I already left the review at that time and few days passed, saying I rly liked the interior and some of the furnitures - they were rly artistic I loved them - and thinking things gonna just go smoothe like it did before.

Why wasn't I honest to write all the bad services he gave and attitude sucked? Was so dumb to give him 5 stars like I did usually with other good hosts? On my 5 start review, he gave me 1 star reply saying that I broke his furnitures(which was a lie) and the garbage was everywhere (garbage bags were next to kitchen trash can cus he never lmk disposal area while long stay)blah blah without not mentioning what he did to me. I got annoyed and tried to edit the review but that wasn't possible which was frustrating.

And then what happened?

I could book my next stay because of the bad review he wrote about me. I couldn't replied back to his false review nor edit my previous review because the airbnb doesn't have that function at all. They just don't have any cope with this kind of matter.

I could use other's account anyway or was easy make another one, but I didn't feel good that I had to leave this account because of wrong I didn't even do, of some bad crazy host. He was the one rude all along, and my naive attitude being generous at the end after all those kinda stabbed me back.

Now I'm not traveling nor moving much around so no need to use airbnb anyway, I don't know if their policy has changed after years since then,

but if I'm looking for a short stay anywhere again, I'll def look for other alternatives like Vrbo first and hotels- while I don't like most hotel lightings being are too dark...

Actually dunno if I want to travel again after this coronavirus, and the only country I want to visit rn is Singapore where house hosting is illegal....

I'm safe and warm in my house while writing this and about to have fun time playing a mobile game
